We will be checking messages periodically and can schedule telehealth visits if needed. Even if we are physically distanced from our family and friends over the holidays, we don't have to be spiritually or emotionally distanced. With the vaccines progressing nicely, this pandemic will likely be over some time next year, and so we pray this year everyone has a safe and healthy Thanksgiving!

Wed 10/7CDC strongly recommends everyone get a flu shot this year. We now have limited supplies of the pediatric dose, adult dose, and senior dose (high-dose flu shot for people 65 years and older). The flu shot manufacturers are telling us that they are out of flu shots for this season and that pharmacies will be running out shortly as well. We will give out our remaining supplies on a first-come, first-serve basis. Based on our current usage, we anticipate running out in the next week or two. If you want a flu shot, you can text, email, portal message, or call us to schedule a time. You will drive to the back of our office (suite 113), and text or call us when you arrive. Give us a few minutes, and we will give you the shot in your car.

Wed 10/7Tomorrow (10/8/2020) we are updating our phone lines, so our phones will be down from 12-1pm, which is our normal lunch time. If it's urgent you can reach the office via email drkuomd@drkuomd.com or by texting the office at 410-552-8126

You can get it at your normal appointment OR you can text, email, portal message, or call us for a drive-thru appointment on any We 8a-4p, Th 1p-4p, or Fr 1p-4p. For drive-thru flu shots, you will drive to the back of our office (suite 113) at your appointment time and call/text us when you arrive. We will come out to your car to give you the shot. Flu shots are covered 100% by your insurance with extremely rare exceptions; contact your insurance if you have questions.

Sat 8/29We will be closed September 7th for Labor Day. Have a wonderful break!

Fri 6/26We will be closed July 3rd for the Fourth of July weekend. God Bless America!

Wed 5/20We will be closed Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2020, in honor of the veterans who died serving our country.

Sat 5/9Maryland's COVID19 cases are finally trending down - Governor Hogan issued an order to reopen medical clinics. We can now see you in the office OR via telehealth (i.e., a video chat or phone call). We have made a number of changes to ensure everyone is well cared for in our office. For more details, see our facebook page www.drkuomd.com/drkuomd. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Fri 4/24Hi everyone, as a reminder, as per Governor Hogan's and the Maryland Department of Health's recommendations, face masks that cover the nose and mouth are required to enter our office.

Fri 4/24COVID19 antibody testing is now available in Maryland. But there are a number of caveats to understand as far as when to get tested, who is a candidate for testing, which test one should get, and how to interpret the results. If you’re having possible COVID19 symptoms or interested in getting COVID19 testing, please contact us for a telehealth appointment so we can make the best recommendations for you, order the right test for you, and guide you on how to interpret and respond to the results.

Wed 4/8We will be closed Friday, April 10th, for Good Friday. We think Easter will be especially meaningful this year in light of all who are suffering or dying from COVID-19. We pray that your spirit is renewed this Easter, and that you stay safe and healthy! God bless! God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Wed 4/8For the convenience of our patients, we are happy to welcome Quest Diagnostics to our office! They will open a lab in our office starting April 13th. The lab will be open from 745am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Please note that they will not be doing COVID19 testing, which is still in limited supply.

Wed 4/8With Governor Hogan’s orders, we can see new patients over telehealth or in person. Text/call 410-552-8126 or email drkuomd@drkuomd.com to request an appointment!

Mon 3/30Per Governor Hogan's stay-at-home order for Maryland, we have changed all non-urgent appointments to telemedicine. We are still in the office every day to care for you. If we feel that it is in your best interest for us to examine you in person, we will ask you to come to the office. Stay well and safe. Contact us by text, email, phone, or patient portal if you need anything. God bless.

Mon 3/23We offer telemedicine visits for most appointments; you can call, text, email, or send us a portal message to request one. At your telemedicine appointment time, our providers will send a message to your smartphone or email. If you click on the link in the message, you will be connected to our provider.

Tue 3/17We are screening sick visits for COVID19 symptoms. If you have COVID19 symptoms, we will evaluate you via a telehealth appointment. 99% of our sick appointments for respiratory symptoms can be completely handled this way. However, there may be rare occasions where we find that the telehealth visit is not enough - that we know you don't have COVID19, but we need to examine you in person to make the right recommendations. In that situation, we will ask you to come to the office the same day for an examination. We think this two step approach keeps our patients and staff safe and ensures we give the best medical advice we can.

Tue 3/17Testing kits remain in short supply. Because of this, testing in our local area is limited to hospitalized patients and patients with symptoms who are at high risk due to an underlying medical condition or exposure. Kits are not available to test patients who have no symptoms. This will hopefully change soon! Please do NOT flood the emergency room in an attempt to get tested - it's probably the least safe place for you to be right now. We are asking our concerned patients to contact us first, so we can give you advice on what to do (You can call, e-mail, fax, or text or send us a patient portal message.)

Tue 3/17Many non-emergency surgeries and dental appointments are being cancelled. This frees up masks, ventilators, and critical care space for the expected influx of COVID19 patients. If you have a surgery coming up, you may want to contact your surgeon to find out if it is still going to happen. Please be nice to your surgeon if they cancel your surgery! Most of them do not want to cancel your surgery, but this is being mandated from on high due to the public health emergency.

Thu 12/26We will be closed December 31st and January 1st to ring in the New Year! In the new year, may "the Lord bless you, and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace"

Wed 12/4With the winter season upon us, we wanted to let you know about our weather policies. If we close for inclement weather, we will post a notice here and on Facebook, and our voicemail will say that we are closed. If you have an appointment, we will attempt to notify you -- first by text message, then by phone call, and then by e-mail. In order for us to reach you, please make sure that your contact information with us is up-to-date and that your voice mailbox is not full or inactivated. Stay warm and safe this winter!

Thu 11/21We will be closed November 28th and 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday. May everyone have a blessed holiday! "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Phil 4:6-7

Sat 11/16We are proud to announce Mary Turner, a Family Nurse Practitioner, has joined our practice. Mary brings years of experience in emergency medicine and internal medicine and has served the community as an EMS Lieutenant and Critical Care Transport Nurse. She has six wonderful grandchildren.

Thu 11/7We will shortly begin expanding our office space to better serve everyone. On November 9th, we will start remodeling our existing front office space and waiting room. Shortly thereafter, we will build out the office space behind us. Please pardon any mess during our construction and thanks for all of your confidence and support. It's a pleasure to care for you.

Sun 9/15Did you know that in 2016, flu shots prevented an estimated 2.5 million flu medical visits and 71,000 hospitalizations? That's the population of Portland, OR and the number of hospital beds in Texas! We are offering flu shots for all of our patients (including the high dose flu shot for patients age 65 and older). You can stop by without an appointment Tuesday 830a-1130a, Wednesday 830a-1130a and 1p-5p, Thursday 430-6p (if we are open for our late night clinic - please call/text us first to check), or Friday 830a-1130a. As always, you can also text, call, email, or portal message us for a flu shot appointment. FYI, flu shots should be covered by your insurance as a preventative benefit.

Wed 8/28We will be closed Monday, 9/2/2019. Happy Labor Day!

Thu 8/1Texting to our office is still down but should be up soon! Thanks for your patience! But you can send us a message through our website! Click on the blue stethoscope icon on the lower right corner of any of our web pages to send us a message.

Sat 7/27We are switching our texting service to a program with more options to better serve our patients. There won't be any changes to how you contact our office via text, as it will be the same number. However, there will be a slight interruption in service - we will be without text messaging capabilities on part of July 31st and part of August 1st. During that time you can still call our office at 410-552-8126, send a message through the patient portal, or email us at drkuomd@drkuomd.com. Thank you for your patience during the transition.

Sun 4/14Hi everyone, with measles showing up in our community, the attached article might help. The main takeaways -- if you had the killed vaccine (which was given 1963-1967) OR if you only received one shot of the vaccine (this includes many people born before 1977; CDC didn't recommend people get 2 shots until 1989) OR if you were born in a country which doesn't mandate vaccination -- you may want to consider getting a blood test to check if you are immune to measles. If you are not, you should get a vaccine shot now and in 28 days. The vaccine cannot be given to people who are immunocompromised, pregnant, or have a history of an anaphylactic allergic reaction to neomycin. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/why-many-adults-should-get-their-measles-shot-110178537592.html

However, many pharmacies source their valsartan from multiple manufacturers, and as a consequence, several pharmacies are now recalling all valsartan prescriptions. More details in the notice from the FDA below. The recall does not affect other blood pressure medications.

Wed 5/23Hi everyone! We will be closed Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day.

Sleep, comrades, sleep and rest
On this Field of the Grounded Arms,
Where foes no more molest,
Nor sentry's shot alarms!

Ye have slept on the ground before,
And started to your feet
At the cannon's sudden roar,
Or the drum's redoubling beat.

But in this camp of Death
No sound your slumber breaks;
Here is no fevered breath,
No wound that bleeds and aches.

All is repose and peace,
Untrampled lies the sod;
The shouts of battle cease,
It is the Truce of God!

Rest, comrades, rest and sleep!
The thoughts of men shall be
As sentinels to keep
Your rest from danger free.

Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.

-- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Decoration Day, June 1882

Sun 3/25Hi everyone, we will be closed on Good Friday, March 30th, 2018. God bless, and a have a wonderful Easter!

By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.
- 1 John 4:9-12

Tue 3/20Hi everyone, we are closed due to snow and ice. Currently it looks like we will reopen Thursday, March 22, 2018. We will be checking messages periodically; you can call or text 410-552-8126 or e-mail drkuomd@gmail.com. Stay warm and safe!

Fri 3/16We are now offering the shingrix vaccine to help prevent shingles! Shingles is a blistering rash that can cause chronic nerve pain, blindness, pneumonia, and brain infections. The new vaccine is two shots given 2-6 months apart for patients 50 years of age and older. Unlike the previous vaccine (zostavax), shingrix is not a live virus and therefore most patients can receive this vaccine. It is more than 90% effective at preventing shingles. CDC recommends that even if you already received the old shingles vaccine (zostavax), that you receive the new vaccine as well. Most private insurances will start covering the vaccine on April 2, 2018. Unfortunately, Medicare will not cover the vaccine if it is given in the physician's office! For more information, you can also check: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/shingles/public/shingrix/index.html. You can call, text (410-552-8126), or email us for an appointment for the vaccine.

Fri 3/16Our phone and internet service is back up!

How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

Merry Christmas!

Sun 11/19Hi everyone! In celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday, we will be closing at noon on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. We will reopen at 9am on November 27th. Have a blessed holiday!

Tue 10/24We are proud to announce that Mr. Casey Davis, a board-certified physician assistant, has joined our practice. Casey brings 15 years of broad experience in emergency medicine, orthopedics, urgent care, and internal medicine. He has a passion for helping people improve their health through nutrition and exercise and runs a health coaching practice. He lives in Westminster with his wife and two children, enjoys baseball, and has completed an Ironman.

If you like, before you come over, you can text us at our main number 410-552-8126 to confirm that we haven't run out.

"...they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue"
-- Pres. James Garfield (then Ohio Congressman)

Sat 5/20Hi! I think some of you might find this link helpful. It'll calculate your stroke/heart disease risk over the next ten years, and provides some guidance on whether to start aspirin or a cholesterol-lowering medication. We'll calculate your results at your office visits

Wed 5/17Traffic:
Rt 26 between Rt 32 and our office is under construction.
Please plan for a 10-15 minute delay. Rt 26 East is less congested, but may also have a slight delay. We don't know how long the construction will last. If we find out, we will post again.
Thanks!
Office Manager

Thu 4/20To help our patients cope with the rising costs of health insurance and deductibles, our office has partnered with carecredit.com to provide micro loans.
From their website:
CareCredit helps you pay for out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for you, your family, and even your pets! Once you are approved, you can use it again and again to help manage health, wellness, and personal care costs not covered by insurance. For more info, contact us or check out http://www.carecredit.com

Fri 4/7Our office is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm, 4/8/17 (Sat).

Wed 4/5We will be offering free alpha-1-anti-trypsin deficiency testing on April 26, 2017, to our patients with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), chronic bronchitis, or poorly controlled asthma. Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency is a genetic disorder which can mimic COPD or asthma and probably affects about 1% of patients with COPD. It tends to be under diagnosed, and newer treatments for it can now prevent progressive lung damage. Contact our office if you have any questions.

Mon 3/20You can now pay your balance online with a credit card from your smart phone, tablet, or computer!

You can access online bill pay by:
